To the Garden Wings Shelter Comes
I began by taking the image of one bomb, Truckee, and embedding it into Mandala like images made from elements of my paintings, films and photo-based works.
Very little conscious thought went into this process. Instead, the images created a life of their own.
The butterfly in the images flew into my studio one day and spent three hours on the windowsill. I considered it a fortunate visitor and incorporated it into the mandalas.
Truckee, 210 kilograms, dropped at 5:27 am on the 9th of June, 1962,
on Christmas Island
As I continued to develop the series, the images became more like ominous landscapes.
Lately they have assumed a different kind of archetypal imagery.
